Michael's Steampunk Sleigh
Finished the Steampunk Sleigh from Michael's POM.
I almost hate to post it as I had issues when constructing and painting it.
First, when I removed the clamps from gluing the sides together I noticed that one side shifted from the center section
Second, I'm not at all pleased with my paint job. Maybe I should I should stick with natural finishes
As far as Michael's file is concerned it was excellent. Don't know how he keeps turning out these designs!
Anyhow, here it although I'm not proud of my results......May cut a second one and try again. This time I will add dowel holes to the sides to maintain the alignment with the dowels in the center section.
Also, I'm going to double side the rocket pods instead of having to glue the halves together.

Me thinks you're too critical of yourself! That turned out beautifully. I can't wait to make one of these.

Agree with Joe. That looks fantastic and it holds one of Santa's favorite treats. Great Job!

Hi Ron,
Fantastic outcome, and thank you for posting the photo!
For the life of me, I don’t see anything wrong at all with the paint job or anything else - you did a great job!
I like the way you painted the gimbal rockets. Looks like a fine-textured paint and really looks nice.
I too, thought about doing the gimbal rockets as a two-sided carve on thicker stock to yield a one-piece result. However, I changed my mind thinking 3/4” material is most commonly available and some folks tend to “avoid” two-sided projects (for some reason!).
Thanks again for posting!

Thanks Michael & others. My wife agrees with you that I’m too picky and my own worst critic
The paint is Rust-oleum Multi Color Textured paint in a rattle can. I used it on my Steampunk Desk Lamp and really like the “metallic texture” it produces.

Re: Michael's Steampunk Sleigh
I agree with you RT, it is a complete disaster! Just awful. Surprised you posted it here.
Since it is soooo bad you probably do not want anyone to see it in your garbage, so just mail it up here, ok?

Oh so true!!! why is it that we as woodworkers always want to point out what went wrong??? It makes me crazy every time I do it.Leo wrote:Golden RULE

I wish I could present my projects like I presented myself when dating...let me tell you about alllllll of my wonderful traits! LOL
Of course, by now my dear wife has found most of those "defects".....

I agree with everyone else. It is a great looking job. I only need to finish painting mine, about an hour's worth. I see you changed the runners around. I thought about changing my runners.
I'm not going to tell anyone about the stupid mistake I made in my Steampunk Sleigh.

Yes I switched them around for something different. Should be ok unless he runs into some deep snow drifts however, not likely here in Floridagene8522 wrote:rtibbs2018 wrote:Finished the Steampunk Sleigh from Michael's POM. /quote]
