Marine Corps

Post by joecnc2006 »

Here Is a New Piece I did In Aspire, 20" Dia. Marine Corps Seal.

I used two pieces of wood from an original 12"x48" piece cut in half, what I did was Place them on the CNC Machine and machined a new seam with a 1/4" up spiral, This ensured that the edges would have a perfect mating seam for the two piece Glue-up to make a 24" wide Board.
I went to woodcraft and bought two sets of their clamps (they are now 19.99ea.)
The splice is right in the center and you can hardly see it.

I got the Marine Logo From James (Vector Art 3D), The Rope I created myself, made one of the turns in Acad then did an Arrey on a 360 deg, with an extra 67 and worked really well, I would have used the One which came with the Aspire software DVD but by the time i enlarged it i found that it did not have a symmetrical width all around, but mine is perfect now.

I created the roughing pass:

Then created a circular interior finish pass:

Next I made a Raster second finish pass but the bit i used was a straight sided round nose, i should have used a up spiral round nose, because when it came to the letters, it seemed to hack at the wood instead of cutting it, so on some of the pointed portions of the times roman lettering it broke the edges, maybe i should have used a different text, but i wanted to match the Original Seal as much as possible:

Here is the Finished Cutout of the Marine Corps Seal:

Wow... that's OUTSTAMDANDING! I've yet to do any cutting myself but I have plenty of military orders queued up for plaques done in Aspire. Terrific job!

That's so special it makes me wish I had been a Marine so I could proudly display a plaque like that. Excellent job Joe.

Joe,
Approximately how tall of a letter could you put on the ribbon out of the eagles mouth? And length of the ribbon for the same size letters.
I'm going to have to make one also.

Measuring it in Aspire 0.26"x1.7" if you want to V-Carve "Semper Fi"

Wow, Amazing Joe,

Myself was within the Dutch Royal Marines for 4 year (20 years ago) and still have interest for any thing
about that, this is very beautifull, i hope in future to become such a craftman as you are.

One other thing, where can i order such a clamps, i am building celtic harps and for glueing the soundboard this is very handy, and ofcourse for my future signs aswell, I am in NL so if you know a webshop i will be happy.

Kind regards,
Ruud

Sweet Joe, very good. I really like those clamps too. I just glued up some "Offset Blanks" for myself with standard clamps. I'll have to get some of these instead. You could joint both boards(stacked face on face) with one pass and they will match exactly. Excellent sign, I want to make one for a Nam era Marine - Awesome!

Thanks, I'm just trying to keep up with your guys here, But Aspire is allot of fun, and as you see in the forums it is only limited to what we can thnk to do with it.
