Going batty... of course

Post by harryball »

While playing with the demo of Aspire I was able to finally prototype an idea I've had for a while for an educational item. In its final form I would make this a cast, use 3D renderings of real species of bats actual size (not just the same one resized) and add information on the raised pads either by vcarving or laser engraving after the fact. The background texture is actually a lot of bats flying around, I need to start with a crisper image but you get the idea. The two bats shown full view should appear to have flown forward for viewing... that's my thought anyway. Once prepared it would be hand painted and sealed suitable to be touched.

Everything was created in Aspire except the 2 bats, it is available from James on VectorArt 3D and imported. There is a lot more work to go, specifically getting decent pictures of each species and creating the 3D models... but this is enough with some clean up I can at least pitch the idea virtually and get an agreement to put it in the education catalog.

I like that a lot. From your previous posts (And your avatar! ;) ) you seem to be both very involved with bats and education....? I'd love to see the finished artical for that when its done...

Actually it would be easy. Use Suede. I use DonJer Suede Tex. It is two part, a paint adhesive and felt sprayed on. I only have green and blue, so that would make a bright bat.
