Video of actual carving, my daughters school logo and ....

Post by DavidCousins »

If anybody is interested in building their own DIY router, this video illustrates a little of my Joe 4x4 Hybrid. It also includes the cutting of two Aspire models. I'm waiting on the clock mechanisms to show up at the front door so I can finish the assembly.

I'm really pleased and enjoy modeling in Aspire. I feel more like a sculptor then a CNCr. More like an artist.

Nice results and good ideas on the clocks. Like your "third" hand.
thanks for posting.

Thats a great video Dave. Thanks. :D Did you create the designs from scratch in Aspire, and what was the process? Where do you get your long bits and that collet? What size spindle collet does that collet adaptor fit into?

Hi

Great video! :D

I'm also interested in where you get your bits and adaptor. I need one so i can use a 1/8" bit as a 8mm

Split Collets

I could use some as well, my machine only accepts 1/4" tooling. Much easier on the pocketbook buying 1/8' shank cutters.

The logos come from jpeg photos. Aspire traced it for me and I extruded the traces into rounded shapes. Very similar to the VCP functions. Except, the extrude functions allow the designer to round over the edges, smooth, remove and smudge the solid. Its fun. Multiple shapes can be created, and these shapes are Merged, Added or Subtracted from each other.

The collet can be purchased from http://www.cadcamcadcam.com/sleeve-adaptor14to18.aspx They charge $9, so I bought 2.

Or you can buy a $3 version that's pressed on your bit from http://www.precisebits.com/
You can only purchase one of these pressed on babies when buying one of their 1/8 bits. So you end up with one sleeve for every bit.

The bit you see me using in the video comes from this supplier

Glad you enjoyed the video. Hope this info helped.
