Steampunk Submarine

Post by rtibbs »

Just finished cutting this and thought I'd post pictures while I decide how to apply the finish.
It's ~7" long with a beam of 3"
The Anchor and Celtic weave for the base are from Vectric Clipart.
Michael should recognize the thrusters as the are scaled down rocket pods from his Sleigh project.
Both the thrusters and hull were double sided and all made from pieces of pine laminated together.
Everything is just pinned together as I have a bit of handwork to do. (Sanding)
Also going to make the periscope removable as I have broken it twice already.
I really like the faceting of the hull and portholes. Not sure how to bring this out with the finish.

Nice and Funky Ron! :)
I'd probably sand with only 400and then 600G flexible mesh(like Abranet) to not break those edges. Fingernail care foam center stick in the prebuff and buff from drugstore come to mind for the facets(Useful tools!)
Maybe go with an In the Wood (Watco,or oil?) finish to keep facets sharp?
Fun Project!
Well done!

Ron,
I like the "fishy" look of your sub!
It will be fun to follow your progress.

Awesome project, love how you've took part of Michaels sleigh and fed it into your sub!
