floor medallion

Postby nicksilva » Sat Aug 10, 2019 4:14 am

this was all laid out in Aspire. 24" diameter. inlay woods include Maple, Mesquite, walnut, white oak and Santos Mahogany and assembled from the inside out. It was pretty tight and only had to hand sand/fit the point where the point meets the center of the white oak which was routed with a 1/16 bit first but it's still impossible to get a sharp corner with a round endmill. This was tons of fun.

That will look fabulous in the floor.

We retired and downsized into a home that already had beautiful inlays set into the oak floor of four rooms. I enjoy them every day.

Really well done.

Floor medallions are not a cheap item by a long shot.

My favourite kind of work, greatly excecuted.
Now up to the even more detailed inlay designs like they use to do in the French furnitures from 250 years ago :-)
