So, Both of the pieces used on the coin holder are American oak, the base is burnt oak it is "cooked" in an oven and burnt all the way through interesting stuff. The base for the School to the skies is mahogany inlay-ed with Malaysian Kauri , school to skies is an program run by the Royal New Zealand Air force which is encouraging young women to join the RNZAF. the below link give more info if you are interested.
