Aztec and Mayan Calendar Theme Salad Bowl Guitar

Hey, they are both round, so why not use them on another weird guitar build?

I used three of the symbols from the Mayan Haab calendar on the fret board for Vcarved decoration, and another one to decorate the tailpiece.
The bridge is sort of a pyramid also. The top and bottom panel are made of 3mm 5 ply aircraft grade plywood that I have used in building
radio control model aircraft over the years. The calendars are carved just 0.030" deep with a Whiteside #1540 60 degree carbide cutter. Both
panels are dark stained with General Finishes Java gel stain. The symbols on the fret board are stained with General Finishes black gel stain. The
red wood is Padauk, the brown layer under the fret board is black walnut. The neck is red oak. The bowl is an 11" diameter bamboo salad
bowl from IKEA. The tuners, fret wire, dual piezo pickup kit, skull knob, and strings are from C.B. Gitty Crafter Supply. 25" tuning length. Tuned to DGBE.

I finally upgraded my Aspire 8.5 software to v9.516 recently and used it to create this project.

You are making it difficult for me to not learn how to play one of those. It's another out of the ball park projects. Your family, friends and neighbors must have a wonderful time getting to see your projects much like we on this forum do. Thank you.

Fantastic creativity, Richard! Who would have guessed anyone would make guitars out of those calendar designs?! Keeps us "out of our boxes" you do!

Thank you!

If you can already play a 6 string acoustic guitar, just forget the two larger strings (EA) and figure out the chords from there. The remaining four strings are tuned the same as the four smaller strings on an acoustic guitar. (DGBE)

They all have something I made for them now. All of the women and great nieces in my close family have a Paradise Box and the great nieces and great nephews all have a guitar now. Good to get this guitar finished so that I can make a US Flag drop box for my American Legion post using steel sheet, plasma cutting, and MIG welding, then paint it. I also expect to go back to work nearly full time helping a friend build some equipment for a contract job he has coming up soon. It looks like it will last all summer, so I might not get anything done that I can post here for a while.

Why don't you guys try designing and making some weird guitars in my absence so I can watch?

Isn't that what this forum is all about? Making each other want to do something to out-do each other?

It just proves that whatever we can dream up, we can make it happen with this wonderful Vectric Aspire software. Many thanks from me to the Vectric staff and to you also Michael for your inspiring projects.

This guitar has struck a nerve with the company that I buy my guitar parts from:

https://www.cbgitty.com/news/build-cbgs ... w-you-how/

There are three guitars that are featured. One that is a cigar box version of a Hurdy Gurdy instrument, mine, and another cigar box guitar.

Actually, there are five instruments being featured.

Michael, I think it's about time that you created a guitar of some kind for your Vectric Monthly Projects, don't you? I need some friendly competition here.

Update:

This guitar is now on display at the local Roanoke Valley Veterans Museum along with three other guitars that I have made. This one and the license plate style guitar I made recently are on loan for most of the summer. They will demonstrate them to bus tours and school class tours that visit the museum.

Many thanks to the Vectric Ltd. company for choosing this project for one of the monthly email newsletter user links. Again. :D

My projects have slowed down for the summer, but as usual, but I hope to have more things to show off as I can get to them. One will be another salad bowl guitar, with yet another weird theme.
