Oh NO! Yet another weird guitar ...

This one is a gift for my 13 y/o great-niece Sabrina. She is the last to get one of my oddball creations. She has been taking piano lessons for two years and may possibly try to learn to play this or a standard acoustic guitar. I hope so.

I went all out with the heart, Celtic knots, and ring of hearts theme. Padauk, curly maple, bocote, and red oak woods are used. The fret board has a triquetra and a heart shape on the end. The sound hole is Celtic knot twists. The body is an 11" diameter bamboo salad bowl from IKEA. Tuned to DGBE and is 25" tuning length. The top panel is 1/8" thick. Dual piezo electric pickup kit is installed for playing with an amplifier.

The tuner head heart shape ended up a bit too wide, and the #1 and #4 strings have too much angle from the nut to the tuners, It could cause the string to jump out of the string notches, or the wood will break off. It is common for some of the cigar box style guitars to use a screw, metal peg, eye screw, or other device to support the string and act as a pivot point to keep the strings straight until they get past the notches a small amount.

Had a lot of "fun" with this one, and hope to deliver it on Sunday afternoon.

I will be going on to other things for a while now. There are two more Paradise Boxes to make for friends first. Both will be used as cremation urns for their family members. I will make a license plate style guitar some time in the near future. I have been asked by the local American Legion Post to make a sheet steel US Flag drop box for the front driveway of their building. I'm sure that I can figure out something to do for a CNC carved wooden sign for it.

Looks like another busy year coming up.

I'm sure that Sabrina and her family will all be proud of it. Makes me happy to be able to do this for the kids.
