New chair design

I've been working on a new chair design for a couple weeks. The first prototype didn't turn out so well, but the second one has promise.

This was the first prototype. The proportions were all wrong, and the stretchers ruined the flow of it, which is why I redesigned it. It usually takes me two or three prototypes to get a chair I'm satisfied with. You can see in the first post that I really beefed up that back leg joint so that the stretchers could be eliminated. The front leg has a 1" round tenon that fits 2.375" long up into the seat. I'm hoping its enough to control the forces on legs that are angled out 8 degrees in two planes.

The last pictures are of a technique I often use to cut a third side on parts that have no flat surface to reference from. I use one half of the model to 'subtract' and make a jig to hold the part at any position I want. I make the jig from MDF and just pocket screw it to my spoil board.

LIKING the second one Russell!!
Very pleasing organic flow to it!! :)
Nice subtle bookmatching on the seat, and like how you worked the features to the sides of the backrest.
Should be easy enough using plain vanilla stock to make a set, OR searching your stacks come up with a Stunning one of !! :D
Hope front legs can take it...NICE Design and Eye for Flow Russell !

Very nice work. I like your idea how you did the jig. I'll keep that in mind on a few future projects of mine.

Your work always amazes me Russell. The lines just speak to a person and beg them to sit for a spell.

Beautiful. I thought making the jigs for the stool was a challenge, this new chair looks even more daunting.
Hoping to find a break and make another stool, I still love those.... now wishing I had purchased a set of your rocker plans even though I know I won't have time for few more years.
You sure do beautiful work!!
