The things we do with a CNC router :)

The things we do just because we can. :D

Servicing my son's car I needed to replace the timing belt.

The pulleys tend to spring out of position once the belt is removed, due to valve springs pushing on the camshaft

Tools are available to secure the camshaft pulleys in alignment while changing the belt. Not essential but handy. I don't have one and don'y fancy paying and then waiting for delivery.

So I drew up 2 pulleys to match (GT2-8 46 tooth) and arranged to the correct spacing.

Then overlaid a pic to align the angle of each pulley with the alignment marks.

Used that to draw an alignment tool.

Cut it out of a scrap of HDPE. Fitted great and made the job just a little easier

Hi Greg,

I thought this was a very cool use of a CNC so sent it to the Hackaday tip line (one of my favourite sites) - and you made it into the blog!
