Text on Text wedding sign. Size is 7" x 13" made out of cherry , took about 4 hrs to carve using a .125 ball nose bit with a 8% stepover on bit.

NICE Tony!
Can't quite tell if top layer was pocketed first?
Was top layer painted white before carving second layer, or all layers painted afterwards?
Nice 3D touches.

Scott,

The sign was done in one pass. Used a .125 ball nose bit. I did a 3d finish toolpath only. I create shape from vectors. I used sharpie marker pens after the whole sign was carved.

Ah...Aspire.
Was the .125"BN a Tapered? Or did a standard BN manage that 2XDiameter initial cut OK?
I'm always way to cautious on pass depths. But just getting into 3D so my BN bits are really limited and virtually never do mid or big size stuff and it's good to know. Still using engraving bits here for my teeny stuff because detail is better even than a 1/64"BN and I can do no roughing cuts on the dished buttons.(and 64'ths scare me) :)
Thanks Tony
(Sharpies? Going to have to scope that out...thanks!)

Will V-CarvePRO do that text-on-text technique, or do I need to upgrade to Aspire?

You can do it in vcarve pro if you weld the text. Somebody did a write up on doing text on text for v carve pro. The way I do it I only use a .125 ball nose bit one pass. The lettering is modeled with a 22 deg angle on them.

Beautiful, while I think doing the actual modeling and CNC work is doable, how you are able to finish/paint it I think is just another skill that makes your work such a stand out.
Very cool!

I use paint markers or sharpies. Than I spray couple coats of clear finish on it.

Ive done these similar signs using 2 pass method, 1 for each layer.
Could you message me a brief tutorial to set up for a 1 pass project?

Very well done

Also my ball nose bit does leave tool path markings in end result. would a flat end mill eliminate these markings? and maybe just use the ballnose for icons or models. thoughts?

Do you by chance have a file to purchase? I’d love to see the set with one pass.

Thank you
