USMC Plaque / 1967 letter "to the protesters..."

For my Dad's friend Carl at his request. He's a career Marine wounded in Vietnam. Also one for his son who is active duty USMC and one for my Dad who is a USMC veteran.

13.25 x 18.25 x 3/4" MDF with a heavy coat of black gel stain applied with a foam brush. No masking. Ogee on router table (then stain). Two heavy coats of polyurethane with a rattle can after cutting. :D MDF seems to be a magnet for dust. Next time I'm going to try my wife's anti-static hair spray before staining and see if that helps.

Here's what it says:

AND WHEN HE GOES TO HEAVEN
ST. PETER HE WILL TELL...
ANOTHER MARINE REPORTING SIR
I'VE SERVED MY TIME IN HELL!

TO THE PROTESTERS...
HE FIGHTS IN A LAND THAT IS FOREIGN AND FAR,
WHILE YOU PROTEST AND PLAY YOUR GUITAR!

HIS KIND IS KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE PAST,
NEVER TO RUN, ALWAYS STAND FAST!

HE WADES THROUGH THE MUCK, MIRE AND FILTH,
WHILE AT HOME YOU LAUGH AT HIS BLOOD BEING SPILLED!

GO AHEAD, BURN YOUR DRAFT CARDS, HAVE YOUR
PARTIES AND FUN, WHILE OVER THERE YOU HAVE
COUNTRY MEN DYING UNDER A HOT BURNING SUN!

HE LOVES HIS COUNTRY AND WHAT IT STANDS FOR,
HE'D RATHER FIGHT THERE THAN AT YOUR FRONT DOOR!

HE WALKS STRAIGHT AND PROUD, HE HOLDS HIS HEAD HIGH,
HE'S SEEN FRIENDS KILLED,
HES' SEEN GROWN MEN CRY!

HE'S BEEN SHOT AT AND WOUNDED,
BUT COMES BACK FOR MORE.
ON SPIRIT LIKE THIS HAS BEEN BUILT THE CORPS!
FOR NOTHING CAN STOP THESE GREEN MACHINES,
BETTER KNOWN AS: UNITED STATES MARINES!!
