I can think of several ways to make the pages appear as they do (the decorative areas at the bottom of each) - from hand-painting to inkjet or laser printout transfers. What method(s) did you use?
The pages was done using mdf, so knowing it would suck in the paint, I first sprayed it with clear lacquer, but still wanted the brownish wood to bleed through, so I hit with with steel wool. Then believe it or not, I stood 2-feet away and mist it with white, then gray primer, then hit it with steel wool again. Touched the flourish with a little red to highlight it, then hit it again with the primers. My painting technique probably could of used some professional help, but I think it turned out okay this time.
