Wine & Snack plate

This seems to be a popular subject. I didn’t want to hijack someone else’s post, so here is my version.

Cut out of Corian. I have had quite a few orders for these plates. I sell it in sets of 6.

I am very fortunate in the sense that I have more Corian than I can use in a lifetime, that is why I cut these plates in Corian only. A friend of mine have a business that install Corian products, he calls me on a regular basis to come and collect as many Corian off-cuts as I would like …. Free of charge.

Very nice, Joz!

What bits are you using?

Thanks for the compliment Michael,

I use a 25 mm (1 inch) straight bit for the large pocket (8mm deep) and a 6 mm (1/4 inch) ball nose with a 1.5mm offset for the large pocket, also the 6mm ball nose for the thumb and glass pockets. Cutout 6 mm upcut end mill.

Excellent. Thank you for the info on the bits. Your Corian trays have such a nice, smooth finish. Very professional work!

I do very similar snack plates, mostly from hardwoods. I usually have a carving in the plate and didn’t care for the look in Corian. Plus I don’t have a free supply! Your plates really look great.

O!!! WOW!!! Yours look like designer plates! That is beautiful!!
Mine is just the common garden variety type. It takes me 45 minutes to cut a set of 6 plates. I imagine yours take a little longer.
Here is a sneak peek of my “treasure” some pieces are almost full sheets.

Thanks for the compliment! I sell these through a local artist co-op, usually sets of 4 personalized like the ones in the picture. I try to keep the model simple but they can easily take 30 minutes or so each but I keep busy on other items while they cut. Certainly couldn’t make a living doing this kind of thing. When I tried to make some from Corian so they could go in the dishwasher, I just didn’t think the carving and lettering showed up well. I did a couple with an epoxy inlay but too much work! Thanks again.

Beautiful work. I was going to add any counter top place that does Corian should have lots of "Free" or low cost sink cutouts. The people that did our new ones are like 6 blocks away :D
