Humidor for retiring pilot

Post by scubanimal »

Humidor - 1a.jpg
A buddy of mine requested a little help making a humidor for a retiring F-18 Pilot. While he made the beautiful humidor, I did my small part designing and carving out the top. We did the fill using a brass powder and CA glue process. We did a trial run to get the depths and fill process down, learned a fair bit. The trial runs led me to use a tapered bit instead of a V-bit in some areas as sanding tended to lose details rapidly.

For fills .03-04 is a good depth, .02 is too shallow. Layer up the powder and over fill, then sand flush. use only fresh CA. Ted Sokolowski's info/video had some good info & tips.

Word back is the recipient was quite happy so our donated time and effort felt well rewarded.
