Maple Syrup / Tree Cookie

Maple Tree Cookie
Double-sided sign for a friend. For his Maple Syrup wood-fired cooking operation at his camp. Font is 1.9" Pinewood cut with a .75" 90 degree Vbit = 14 min. cut-time per side. I flattened both sides first with a 1.25" end mill then sanded to 440. Multiple coats of polyurethane should prevent further cracking.

Dark colored area in the center with the fingers extending out is from where the maple syrup taps were in the tree! They extend from the ground up to 4 or 5 feet or so I'm told. Sap is running here now. An interesting fact I learned is that the sap is coming from under ground and only flows during the day when it's freezing at night and above freezing during the day so it's a short season.
