Cherry Coasters

Post by Mike-S »

Old Wake Forest logo and USNA crest.
1/4" EM and 60 deg CMT bit.
Pocket is .2" deep, then V-carve started at that depth.
Cherry stain and poly finish.

Very nice job, I was thinking of doing some coasters but how did you sand the recessed surface?

Beautiful job Mike!

The dilemma with V Carved “anything” is dust build-up over time. Are these for sale or personal use?
Have you considered filling them with a clear coat epoxy or “Liquid glass”? I know this will increase the price, but it will never collect dust in the V Carved areas.

Thanks.
The pocket cut very cleanly with a 1/4" downcut EM--a light sanding eliminated most of the machining marks. I used a couple coats of Rustoleum "Triple-Thick" which covered any remaining unevenness.
Considered filling the V-carve, but like you say, more effort and so more cost.
