fixing a tree with a fairy castle

Post by scottart »

Here is a fun project for your ASpire designers.

Find a tree with a scar in the bark.

Take a picture of the scar, and measure the width and height of the scar.

Drag the picture into Aspire and trace the edge of the scar so you have a scar shaped line drawing in node editing.

Drag the drawing to the correct dimensions.

Create a fairy castle or Gnome door to fit the shape.

Carve it.

Install it in the tree.

Happy grand kids and wife..

here is the tree scar we found. it did take some chainsaw work to flatten out the dead part of the tree between the borders of the scar prior to mounting the castle in place

carved out of a piece of scrap cotton wood...so it matches the tree. Cotton wood carves poorly but ages in a spectacular way.

Yes, that is a really neat idea. Using Aspire is certainly easier than pulling up the tree, laying it on your CNCRP CNC machine to carve the original wood inside the scar, then replanting the tree.

Michael, no, haven't tried it so far ... :D

My big machine is 12 feet long and with the 3" square steel box tube frame it can probably support the weight. It is Z axis height challenged with only 8 inches of travel and 6 inches clearance under the Z axis assembly. Maybe one day I'll need to build something like a one piece Paradise box quilt chest from a large walnut tree and "upgrade the machine yet again".

If anyone can do it, you certainly can! :)

We already know you can make a guitar out of anything! So I wouldn't be surprised if you actually did Carve a tree.

Ok, how about a "live edge" base fiddle body?
