I'm not found of the topic, but it's pretty well done and detailed. Nice finishing too.
Best regards

Glad to!
It was to be a birthday present for my oldest son (in a couple days :o ) and at the end of the finish carve, last 20 lines or so, it decided to take the bit on a happy dance across the lower left. I wanted to salvage it and quick,so puttied up the groove , sanded it and sealed it up with a coat of Minwax natural oil base stain. Next day after letting that setup I rattle canned it with about 3 coats of Rustoleum Hammered Copper. Waited a couple days and then brushed on Minwax Jacobean oil stain and started wiping it off with rags till it got close to what I had envisioned. It was just a big box store pine slab (1" x 18" x 24") so I was very happy with the result. Looks better than just stain, IMO, which is how I would've finished it off, had it not been for the happy dance

Gale

I'll have to make note of your finishing process. Since I've had my fair share of wandering bits, I'll not write that one down.

Beautiful work and great recovering on that walking bit...lol

When you say a pine board 18 x 24?? is that a laminated piece or just ONE solid piece?
If its ONE piece, wouldn't split/crack after a while in temperature changes? Just curious.

I think we all take our chances of projects cracking over the years, you can take steps to minimize the chances but the possibility can never be eliminated.
I have dozens of projects of various designs and woods that have been hanging in my garage for years in extremes of hot and cold, so far very few of them have cracked.

Andre
It was a laminated pine slab available from the big box stores in various dimensions.

Very impressive; a wonderful detailed carving and finish!
Was the finish pass done with a V bit?
Cheers

The finish pass was done with the tapered ball nose in the photo.
