First try at a topographical map. Turned out so so..... but anxious to do some more.
Pine slab from a big box store, 12" x 23" x 1"
Rough = 1/4"em @ 40%
Finish = 1/16"bn @ 9%
V-Carve = 60 degree CMT Laser Point. (It really reared it's ugly 'wrong angle' head on that soft pine. It's fixed now in the tool database, actually 56 degrees.)
Minwax oil stains & Minwax Poly clear. Think that pine is done bleedin' yet?

Looks good!
What technique did you use to get the topographical map into Aspire/Vcarve with the 3D data?
Thanks for sharing!

I downloaded the US State Topographical .stl's from Thingiverse and then imported the *.stl of Idaho into Aspire.

Sorry it's not very visible but the word "Thingiverse" in my post before yours is a link direct to that page.Bobtail Farm wrote:any suggested search phrase(s) for Thingiverse? tried "topographic", wasn't keen on any i found.

Re: Topographical Map
Thanks for the tip Galerdude, but I think Paul's BigTopo spoiled me...I barely recognize my State of Maine
Although I haven't tried to do the whole state, and think I'd have a brain cramp trying to get the whole state and then getting a boundary vector I was happy with.
GOOD job on yours though! Think I'll stick with doing small portions I love of the State at high def....I LOVE details!
