Rest Machining Project Finally Completed

Post by RobertD »

I finally finished a plaque that I have been working on since before the UGM meeting. With the help of great people like Doug Pinney, Dale Hellew and several others who chipped in their knowledge and experience I think I got it right. The plaque is cut out of walnut and will be finished with Tung Oil. I still have some sanding to do but not much and soon it will hang in a place of honour in my office.

Many thanks to all those who gave advice, and their time to guide me to this point.

Santa did arrive and my present is the pictures I have attached.

Merry Christmas to all, I hope the New Year will be merry and bright and the projects plentiful.

Bob

Very Nice!
Could you share the size you did it in? And also the size of the finish bit?
Reason being, I'm due up to do that same file in the next 3 or 4 days. Was planning on doing it approx. 5x18 cherry wood. It's for some old friends that are doing me a huge favor and wanted to do a little sumpthin' for them.
Regards,
Gale

Beautiful work Bob. Did you calculate how much time you saved by using REST Machining?

Thanks for sharing...

John

I saved approximately 4 hours using the RM technique. Next up is one out of Cherry and then one out of Hickory.

Thanks for the comments.

My stock piece of Walnut was 9 x 18 x .9375. You might squeeze by with 6 or 7 by 15 or so. A lot depends on how you scale the project. I had a spot already and waiting for it so my size may be larger than you want. I sent you the rest of the info by PM if you questions or need something else just let me know....

Thanks for looking in and the comments let me know how it goes..
