As I mentioned in Bob's "Rest Machining" thread I had planned on doing that same file. Now, I don't have a clue what Rest Machining is so I proceeded with what little I knew. He was gracious enough to PM me with his dimensions and some info on the two finish files he setup to carve his. I have considered for some time to run a project with 2 finish files but until now hadn't done so. Bob shared with me that he hadn't used a rough file .... me, not being smart enough or gutsy enough , ran a rough and 2 finish.
Started with a piece of cherry 18" x 5.5" x .85".
-Rough: 1/4"em, 41% step over, FR@110 ipm, PR@50 ipm and .125" pass depth. Took 50 min.. This I think, proved to be a little much. Got a bit of undesirable chip out that I'll need to fix with a dremel
-1st Finish: 1/4" bn, 10% step over, FR@130 ipm, PR@40 ipm. Took 28 min.
-2nd Finish: 1/16" bn, 4% step over, FR@120 ipm, PR@40 ipm. Took 5 hrs 21 min.
When I originally set it up a few days ago with just a rough and a finish (not the same settings) it gave me an estimate of just under 11 hours.
Anyways, here's the result with out any sanding or finish.
Always trying, always learning

Very nice . Nice that you cut the time in half.
Is the Black Powder file available some place.

He used to sell it individually and with large groups of files. The link I posted is it, with one other file. The only listing I could find.
Enjoy! It's a fun project.
