Created the Horse Head sculpture for a client The head is poplar and the Horseshoe base is Cherry. Created on my CNC and designed with Aspire 9.0V

Another suggestion it is slice it down the middle and do a double sided cut, provided you have the newest version of Aspire. However, after saying that, where just the section between the ears needed to be cut, your way was probably faster and more efficient. It is a great looking model. Gary

Yes Gary only the ear section needed to be cut to separate them. Than I hand sculpted between the ears.

Back in 2010, I created a set of Stallion Bookends for the CarveWright company as one of their monthly projects. The horse head models were created in Aspire using a pencil sketch I made to use as a guide. I did a presentation of the entire process at the Jim McGrew Vectric User Group either in 2010 or 2011 - can't remember for sure.

I was faced with the same issue of how to create a final outcome with space between the ears - all cut on the CNC. The solution for this particular horse head was I designed it as symmetrical/flipped sections. Each head was made up of four sections...two side models of the horse head plus two thinner models in the center that was just the horse's mane with a flat silhouette for gluing the two sides to. After glue-up the result is a horse head with space between the ears and the mane running in between. (This also could have been done with three sections, if I had double-side carved the mane/silhouette section as one piece.)

I used the Clip Art Horse Head in Aspire. With Aspire 9.0V two side feature, I was able to create both side of the Horses head. If you look at the clip art image you will see two ears. When you flip the head in Aspire you now have four ears. A horse with four ears looks funny so I removed one set of ears in Aspire. The remaining set I need to separate after carving the head.
With the two mirrored clip art images together, the head was not deep enough, so I added a quarter inch to the base height of each image.

The block of wood I used was 12" x 12" x 2" one piece.
