First Stacked Text

Well with all the excellent forum support and outstanding Vectric tutorials I have managed to finish my first stacked text plaque which includes 3d clipart.

Plaque measures 17 x 8 x .75 inches.
Material is Maple
Used a 1/4" EM for the roughing pass and 30° v-bit for text and 1/16th tapered BN for finishing of 3d content.
Roughly 7.5 hours machine time but well worth it I think.
Finish 3 coats of rattle can sealer, Then Acrylic paints where needed. The 4 coats Hellmens Poly with light sand between coats. All of which were allowed 24 hours cure time between coats.
Learned a ton on this one as well as a similar thread going on while I was doing this. I actually got to use some of the tips from that thread to help enhance the final piece. In particular rest machining.

Hello Jane and thank you for the kind words. I cannot give you blow by blow lessons but someone else can. Follow the link below and study the video. I watched this video probably a dozen times before I actually cut one on my own. I actually have a dual monitor setup so I was able to put the video on one screen and Aspire on the other so I could follow along pausing and starting as needed. The template that is created with this tutorial is extremely useful for me. As now that I have made the template it is just a matter of changing your layout as you wish and running the toolpaths. I actually was very lucky to have a thread running at the same time I did this piece. It explains the process for getting even sharper lines in all of the nooks and crannies when doing stacked text. The hand painted well that is on you. I know I purchased detail artists brushes which came in quite handy for the bottom side text.
I cannot express the importance of the tutorial enough. Fist time watching it may be a bit confusing but next time through you will pick it up and it will become much clearer why stacked text is done the way it is.

Above all have fun with it and take some liberties on some scrap pieces.

Best
Dwayne

The tutorial link doesn't explain how you got the 3D hands and hearts. Can you explain?

I bought the 3d hearts and hands in from My clipart gallery. They are actually a part of the D&M be mine collection.
I bought them in after I had toolpathed the bottom text portion. Then when I recalculated all toolpaths the rough and finishing toolpaths accounted for the 3d models. I also drew an outline vector around the 3d models so the cnc would only carve the direct area right around the models.
