Re: Fender Stat Build
Thanks Rick. I googled Stratocaster Plans or something like that & chose one that had the pocket depths. Then brought it into my CAD program, scaled it then traced it.Rick Hubka wrote:Fantastic Strat Build!
Can you tell us where you got your strat body cut file. I don't mind paying for one as apposed to a hundred hours of my time to learn to make one poorly.
You can find tons of Strat copy guitars around for a hundred bucks but nothing beats saying you built it yourself!
Rick
I'll attach the cut file I made (note: I didn't use these bridge holes & the bridge profile was a hair too long)... ...& I must say that my hours of of screwing up then learning what went wrong was half the fun ... it's the journey

Thank you so much for the file!
I'm sure a few of us here will make use of it.
For me I am looking at my stash of 2" maple and will be carving soon.
I've thought of it for years and it takes someone like you to do it and kick my butt.
For my first I'll buy the semi finished neck too. The natural finish on yours is awesome.
I'll keep you posted.

Thank you for sharing the file. This looks like a fun project to undertake with my nephew. Just need to get the CNC back in action now.

Re: Fender Stat Build
I've been checking out neck and parts prices for building a Strat. A genuine Fender Strat neck with logo is like $500. I think the logo sticker on it costs 400.
Then there is the good parts and kits from http://www.stewmac.com/
But...
Yes I know the china stuff is made cheap and it takes a long time to ship. But...
$27 for a finished maple strat neck with free shipping! They have Belcat pickups there which are fair quality.

$27... Why would I make one?

Nice finish. I have a natural Strat I bought many years ago. One thing that distinguished Stratocasters from Les Pauls or Fender Telecasters was the contoured body shape, not flat topped. That, of course, adds more work (and cost) to the original. That might be a project for someone to figure out in Aspire.

I knew absolutely zero about guitars & was gonna go with name brand parts. I bought everything needed (besides a neck) at a guitar store to the tune of $400.Rick Hubka wrote:I've been checking out neck and parts prices for building a Strat. Went home & found all that I bought plus a neck on Amazon for $70. I lost the receipt from the guitar center but they let me return everything with no hassle.
Yes they are cheap parts, but this is for a 13yr old who is just learning.
Add that to the fact that I didn't even know how or if it would turn out, the expensive stuff seemed like just a waste of $$.

Re: Fender Stat Build
We contoured it a bit but nothing like the strats have, more like rounding it off. It was a sanding workout for the boy...lol.Stickman wrote: One thing that distinguished Stratocasters from Les Pauls or Fender Telecasters was the contoured body shape, not flat topped.
