I've been checking out neck and parts prices for building a Strat. A genuine Fender Strat neck with logo is like $500. I think the logo sticker on it costs 400.
Then there is the good parts and kits from http://www.stewmac.com/
Yes I know the china stuff is made cheap and it takes a long time to ship. But...
$27 for a finished maple strat neck with free shipping! They have Belcat pickups there which are fair quality.https://www.aliexpress.com/store/1474572?spm=2114.12010184.108.40.20687724aUOP74u
$27... Why would I make one?
I knew absolutely zero about guitars & was gonna go with name brand parts. I bought everything needed (besides a neck) at a guitar store to the tune of $400.
Went home & found all that I bought plus
a neck on Amazon for $70. I lost the receipt from the guitar center but they let me return everything with no hassle.
Yes they are cheap parts, but this is for a 13yr old who is just learning.
Add that to the fact that I didn't even know how or if it would turn out, the expensive stuff seemed like just a waste of $$.
