Dining room table

Post by dealguy11 »

No carvings on this, just a really big table that fitted together beautifully. Used Aspire to cut the "pie" pieces for the table top, and also the thick oak pieces around the edge. Also cut the large disks and rings that are inside the round base, and an underlayment piece to stiffen up the top. There is no filler on the pie pieces - they went together so precisely and closely that there were no gaps. Table is white oak with a cerused finish and is 84" in diameter.

Wonderful work!

Did you need to take any precautions to prevent the points of the pie from getting damaged while routing them out?

No, not really. I cut them out with a 3/8" compression bit, which cuts down from the top and up from the bottom. This prevents the veneer from blowing out during routing. It's 3/4" material, which can be cut in a single pass on my machine. Also did the cutout in conventional direction, which leaves a nice finish on the cut during cutouts.
