Paradise Box - High School Class Reunion Commerative

Post by CarveOne »

My high school class has a 55th year class reunion coming up in June of 2018. This Paradise Box will be donated to the Class of 1963 president for use as a fundraiser raffle for all remaining classmates, whether they attend the reunion or not. Some classmates are not able to attend due to age and health issues, or living too far away. All proceeds from ticket sales will help pay for the expenses of the reunion.

The top panel has a converted photo of the high school that is cut with a Whiteside #1540 60 degree solid carbide V-bit. The school's team logo is used with permission of the class president, and is hand painted as best I could with a tiny artist brush. General finishes Java gel stain is used to darken the cuts and shade the weave and flower models. MinWax Early American was used to color the red oak.

I suspect that the ticket sales will go very well ... :)

Really nice job. The modifications from the original are innovative and appropriate for the occasion. I especially like the recessed handles carved into the ends. Great job on the picture to carving also.

Thanks for the complements everyone. The few people I know that have seen it close up have been VERY complementary of it. I think the plan will proceed and turn out to be very successful. The problem I see is that the other classmates will all want one. I might have to farm those projects out to Michael T. :)

Don't worry Michael, there aren't that many of us left out of a graduating class of 125. I don't think that you are into mass production work any more than I am. It's more like just teasing you. :D

I sure do miss the McGrew's Aspire Camp this year. All others are too far away, and my shop is not nearly big enough to offer to have one here.

I miss the McGrew gathering too. But, I know it was a lot of work for Jim to put it together in his very active shop! Kudos to Jim for all the years we enjoyed getting together there!

Right, I don't do any mass production. I have made note of a few business ideas anyway, though! It's been a very long time since I've made anything specifically for resale. Sometimes I think I want to start selling stuff again, but then I snap back to my senses. :D it's a lot easier selling all digital items...no shipping, automatic payment processing, etc.
