I decided to make a paradise box for my daughter's 28th birthday. Below are the results from my efforts. Thanks Michael for the excellent guidance document and files. I changed very little from the original design simply to verify my machine would cut the parts and that I could assemble everything correctly. The project files were very well done and this should be a recommended project for any new CNC user after they get their machine dialed in and a little practice using it.

Looking at the plans again in preparation to make another paradise box, I noticed something I didnt notice before in the order of he finish.

Do you put the brush on acrylic on before the spray or after? I bought two cans of the spray but it is satin and I assume it could be the undercoat regardless of the sheen (plan calls for gloss). On the one I made for my daughter, I put the brush on satin for the top coat but just thought, hmmm it doesnt say what is recommended.

Any ideas why you would put gloss as the undercoat and satin as the overcoat or do I have them completely backwards?

I learned a long time ago that if a finish is to be built up and the end result is to be matte, satin or flat (with wood grain showing through), do the first coat layers in gloss so as not to hide or make the grain look "foggy" or indistinct. Only the final coat or two should be the matte or satin or flat.

The particulates in matte/satin/flat finishes will "build up" along with the finish itself and you run the risk of dulling the pretty grain. Gloss finishes don't have those particulate ingredients, so you have a better result by waiting to apply the non-gloss finish as the final step.

Naturally, a very light sand between underlying coats is advised.
