For the long term

Post by mezalick »

"That's too coincidental to be a coincidence."
Yogi Berra

On my way back home from Leo’s New England Meet & Greet, I decided to stop into a church where we’ve been working for the past 15 years, restoring the Tiffany Stained Glass Windows.
Trinity on the Green in New Haven CT, was built between 1814 and 1815, and consecrated in 1816.
It was built in what contemporaries such as Rev. Samuel Jarvis labeled as the "Gothick style".

It is the first example of a thoroughly Gothic style derived church building in North America, and predates the Gothic Revival architectural style in England by more than two decades.

Upon arriving at the church, I came upon a special ceremony celebrating the placement of a time capsule under the newly constructed front steps.
They don’t expect it to be opened for at least 150 years.

What's so interesting about this ?? well,,now for the rest of the story.

In 2008 I was bitten by the CNC bug, which many of you already have the lasting effects....

Six month later, in 2009, Jim McGrew posted a picture of a 3-D model of his church that he cut from purple heart.
http://forum.vectric.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=5436

"Well", I said to myself, "I can do that. I'll make one for Trinity on the Green "..
But reality set me straight,,I couldn't make the model, so, as many of us have done, I contacted James Booth at Vector Art 3-D.

He agree to take on my project and produced a 3-D model from a photo I sent.
I needed some minor adjustments so James put me in touch with Todd Bailey, who was given the task of making the model for me.
I think Todd was one of a few selected 3-D artist working for Vector Art 3-D at that time.

It goes without saying that the model was exactly what I wanted and it being my first interaction with these gentlemen, the process was a pleasure.
The next year ( 2010 ) I fabricated the plaque with the model and presented it to the church as a possible fund raiser.....it was well received..

I can hear it now,," Okay Michael, but what does all that have to do with now...??

We'll folks, I found out today, that this plaque wound up in the time capsule.

Imagine that, all of us, somehow, in a box, under the front steps of the church......for the long term...

My thanks to James and Todd for helping me along this exciting journey.
Michael

Ya just never know! Very cool, Michael.

You'll want to pass the info along to your relatives and their children so some of them can attend the Time Capsule reveal 150 years from now!

Here's a picture of the plaque I made in 2010.
I've had a little bit of practice since then.
