Plaques

Post by garylmast »

I've been doing some donation work for the Sigma Lambda Chi International Construction Honor Society, with the headquarters at Purdue University in Indiana. Their recent request was plaques for 80 Universities from New York to California for annual awards, which each year they would change each tag to represent the year and whether they would receive a Gold, Silver, Bronze or Active recognition, starting from 2016.

From a picture of their insignia pin, I designed in Aspire a replica and then cast in metal an official emblem. Then with my laser, I used a aluminum laser material for the signage. Here are the results:

Beautiful work. The dark epoxy background really sets it off.

Now that's the sort of quality I would like to be able to achieve some day

I take it from the post you do your own casting Gary, you have some terrific detail looking at that Logo.

I have looked into doing my own casting, and may do it someday on a smaller scale. I was up against a time restraint and this project needed at least 80, so I found a company that would do a minimum of 100 and I didn't have to give them my left arm for payment. Thanks everyone for the compliments.

Very nice work Gary, I also am very interested in doing some molding on a small scale.

P.S. I regularly use the digitizer. Works out great thanks for the deal.

Glad the digitizer is working out Dwayne, it was only collecting dust at my place. I originally 3-D printed this part and was considering following an example of sand casting posted at an Instructables website, but I just had too many of them to do, and have them done for their annual awards seminar. I have everything, including an old lead pot, so maybe I'll give it a try on another one of my projects. Gary
