Corian Trivets

Post by highpockets »

Just finished my first projects with Corian. I like working with this stuff, cuts and sands really well and produces a very smooth finish. There will be more Corian projects in my future.
First trivet was for my wife.

Second one was for friends of our's in Louisiana.

Also made them a spoon holder to go with the trivet.

I like corian as well, but cleaning up after it can be a pain. The stuff that the dust collector doesn't get clings to everything it seems.

Fortunately the custom counter top place nearby keeps me stocked pretty well with material.

The painting detail is great.

I wouldn't try cutting Corian without a dust collector. Mine seems to keep up pretty good.

I'm still on the hunt for a good supplier of Corian in my area. In my frustration I over paid for this first batch. But it is what it is.

Nice work John, keep up the search and something will come up.
Alls it takes is 1 good score and you are set for months if not years.
Menards sells 12" square corian cutting boards for $10, limited color selection but a pretty good deal if you get hard up for material.
[Not corian literally, solid surface material]

KP, if you are constantly producing a lot of fine corian dust something may be wrong with your methods.
You should be making more like chips, flawed chiploads and/or dull tool will produce dust.

Doug,

thanks for the comment. I probably cut too slow, I have a tendency to do that. I also think I need to improve my dust skirting arrangement a little better.

thanks for the advice!

Nice job John. I myself have a piece of Corian waiting for me to take the plunge. Itching to pull the trigger on it but still a bit intimidated.
those might be the nudge I need.
I always enjoy your direct approach. You jump out there and just do it. I think I need to emulate that a bit more.
