Aussie Inlay

Hi All, Ive been lurking on the forums for a while and finally decided to post up some of my work.

I have been experimenting with inlayed chopping boards with a view to trying to sell a few. This was a bit of an experiment to see how much detail could be achieved and im fairly happy with the result.

The Board is Jarrah with an Tasmanian oak inlay and is ~470mmx310mm

Thanks all, its nice to get some positive feed back. I will definitely post up some different projects soon

Yeah so i read the Vcarve inlay guide by Paul Zank and Damien Durrant - massive thanks to those guys if they are out there

- Pocket Flat Depth is 7.62mm
- Inlay Start depth is 2.54mm and Flat depth is 5.08

Which is basically the recommend values from the guide converted into metric

Im going to need to work on my marketing game now

They look great to me, as Dwayne has said you should have been posting your projects ages ago

If the boards you took were similar to what you have posted then maybe a maker market isn't really the right place to be trying to sell them, lot of work in them & prices should really reflect that, you are probably looking to find a niche market for that sort of work.

I really love the detail you managed to get into the inlay. I've never tried doing an inlay using the end grain before. I'm going to give it a try.

On a side note, I'd be very cautious trying to sell the cutting board.

The challenge of "Makers Markets" is finding something to make at a price point which is reasonable and the item can be easily carried. We sell items primarily in the $20-$50 range and display items up to $300 aware that we won't sell any that day but show customers what you are capable of which may lead to follow up or custom orders. We rarely sell any item over $125 at a market.
