Fireside stool

Post by BillK »

Happy New Year.

Here's a little oak stool I whipped up so I don't have to squat down to load the wood stove.

This oak was given to me after being stored outside for a while. I hand planed it, no sand paper.

I saw a drawing of oak leaves and acorns and modified it to created an aspire file for the carving.

I also used my cnc to scribe the curves at the top and bottom of the legs, then cut them out on the bandsaw.

Very Nice. Always nice when you can make use of materials that may otherwise be thrown out.
I also feel your pain for the squatting deal. After many knee operations mine will not handle the squatting. Knee pads on maybe 10 minutes max.
Thanks for sharing.

Nice. I think I'll make one now after spending some holiday time stoking the fireplace  Hard on the knees and back.

That's a great looking stool. I really like the medullary rays on the seat and legs. Is it American white Oak?

Yes it is. Milled from a tree that fell during hurricane Sandy in New York. Just a beautiful piece of wood.
