Very, very nice. I like the way that the rings radiate out and complement the carving.

Wonderful piece Arthur!!
How did you get the vector boundary? Scan/trace and scan?
Is that a pocket cut first to level?
Brought a smile to my face :)
Thanks,
scott

Fabulous use of the grain to accentuate the artwork, Arthur.

Hi, Scott.

I took a picture of it with my Iphone and then put in to photoshop. Then I used lasso tool to get the edges around and made a copy of it. Then I used inside glow effect and made it black for the outline of it.

It looked like this after I finished with it in photoshop. Then it was simple import it and biggest task of aligning it with the machine and the file on the computer. Which I had to let the machine make a few close air passes to line it up.

I used a regular pencil to outline the wood.

I didn't mention this before. But you have to measure specific points on the wood and points on the black outline in aspire to get the right size. I choose prominent spots that would be easier to measure so I can make it as close to the original size as possible.

And thanks!

Arthur, if you don't mind my asking, how long did it take for the CNC machine to do the carving, it really is beautiful.

Excellent work. I just surfaced a 75 pound slab of yellow birch burl using similar techniques. My photo had the tape measure on it.
I drew a line across it to help position/orient it on the CNC bed.
