Postby Greasetattoo » Mon Jan 11, 2016 2:06 pm

Hey guys,
Thought I would tackle this project.
Many hours left.
This is cherry wood.

(this one has to be re-cut, no good)
Enjoy....

A little update...
First piece.
(actually might redo, there is a imperfection on one side.)
And a few spots are pretty thin.

Next is the receiver.

A little update...

To bad these are no good! Uggg

Back to the drawing board.

Think I am going to make it at 150%, that way it will be a lot easier.
As, the wall are pretty thin in some spots.

Also, at 150% it will be a better fit and a lot easier.
But, the machining time will almost double.
Enjoy

Grease
Just a suggestion! If I were doing it Hickory would not be my choice of wood. It splinters and cracks way to easy. Black walnut is my choice for delicate projects, it's fibrous enough to hang together in those delicate areas.

Actually the hickory is cutting rather well..
I cut against the grain.
No splintering.
I get it from a local cabinet shop, cheap!

Yes, black walnut would be perfect too!

Black Gaboon Ebony would make a nice black pistol, too!

Once I get all the toolpaths down I may go to a better wood!

I actually bought the model...
Probably could model it, but I just don't have the time.
But, I did get some plans for a Thompson M1928A1, which I plan on modeling, as I cannot find any models online...

Just had a problem with my machine, the Z axis has been acting up.
Have to take it apart and check..
Broke a damn bit!

A little brick in the road, but I will fix it.
Watch for updates.

New parts ordered...
(brass saddle got stripped out)
Should be back in business by the end of the week.

Just gives me time to figure out all the toolpaths for some of the other parts...
That there is a job in itself!

Love Aspire, though!!! Makes it easy!

Bullet for the M1911 .45 auto I am making.
I enlarged it 150%, so guessing that would be a 67.5 caliber.
Hickory wood.
