Open Book

The clip art used in the tutorials was the basis for this piece.
We gave it to our pastor who liked it so much he placed it on the altar in front of the crèche.
It was made on piece of 3/4" cherry. I used a 1/2" straight pit for roughing and a 1/8 BN for finishing. The text was a v-carve toolpath using a 11 degree v-bit. (available from MCLS)

Code: Select all

.
Finishing took a lot to remove the "corduroy" and other tool marks was a bit more than usual this is due to the various undulations of the model.
Final sanding to 220 before finishing. I used medium walnut Danish oil for the stain and several coats of poly sanding it to 320 and applying a coat of clear wax and buffing it out.

Looks very nice!

Here is my rendition of the open book. My daughter wanted to give something to the priest who married her this past spring. This is what she came up with.

The finished piece was about 14 x 8 3/4, the board was about 7/8 thick as it came from the lumber yard.

Do a Google search for praying hands with cross, there are a bunch of options.

This is one I've used....

The book is a favorite of mine. Done a number of them with the choice of readings. Always popular at Xmas. Well done.

That was one of the first projects I tried when I got my Shark HD3. I have made 3 open books in total now and the video tutorial on the vectric page was perfect. Thanks for posting. Looks great.
