Just for 'FUN'
OK so what do you do with all of the project leftovers? Well you do FUN stuff and perhaps it's even something useful.
This piece of 12mm corian being just big enough not to end up in the scarp bin but not really large enough for a real project just shouts out saying 'use me for something fun', and thats what I did.
Hey you never can have enough thumbknobs for your hohld downs, so the project begins.
3D model created in CAD and imported into Aspire for cutting.

I like it. I keep a lot of scraps around to do stuff like this too. Unfortunately I usually end up keeping them around a "long" time and it adds to my clutter!

I know all to well about keeping all of the 'odds and ends'. It seems like they take over the shop in no time at all.Turtle49 wrote:I like it. I keep a lot of scraps around to do stuff like this too. Unfortunately I usually end up keeping them around a "long" time and it adds to my clutter!

That is really cool, I like it. Would you be willing to share your file for these? I have lot's of scrap that could be put to good use around that shop, that will stop me from always trying to find enough knobs.....

Re: Just for 'FUN'
Very cool indeed.
I was thinking the other day that I need to hand nuts for the hold downs on the new machine.
Cool idea.

Here's the file in STL format, use or modify it as required for your application.
It is currently designed to accept a 1/4" thread

Thank you for sharing. I like this design since it has a low profile.

Thank you for posting the STL. By way of token of appreciation I attach a v-carve file to mill a "wrench" to fit your thumb knob. Besides tighten/loosening the thumb knob, I used the "wrench" to hold the solid surface material while I tapped the hole for the 1/4-20 thread. I used a 1/4" endmill. Not as fine a finish as your thumb knob, but acceptable IMHO.
Again, thanks.
Again, thanks.
