I've seen so many of the SOA 3d plaques that are beautiful and have decided I have to try one. Where can I get the file?

On a roll with textures, here is one in purpleheart with a stone texture, almost flawless.

Those are awesome, I have yet to try and 3d for over a year I dunno why, but it makes me nervous. I just have to do it one of these days. How long does it take you start to finish, and do you still do a roughing pass or just a finish with a tapered BN?

This particular model is pretty large at about 15x11" so it took around 5 hours, not bad considering the detail and background texture.

I have found that a roughing pass is rarely necessary with a design like this, especially in a relatively soft wood like walnut.

I've had associations with outlaw clubs most of my adult life.

They get a kick out of SOA, it increased sales of their own support merchandise and drummed up interest in outlaw clubs in general. The producers obviously did their homework into the inner workings of outlaw clubs, though of course much of it is overblown, over the top hype.
I have done alot of machine work for the club I am associated with ,, But club designs only, though I have showed my SOA designs never had a request for one. Seriously doubt if any would hang them in their clubs, but individual members might well want one for personal use/garage hanger.

Doug,

I've been trying to cut one of these for my man cave and it doesn't look as if the SOA model is still for sale on Ebay. Could you point me in the right direction as to where a guy could buy or aquire one from someone with it? TIA!

I just got it from a stone image on a google search, pretty easy to create and store custom textures.
Sometimes they need a bit of tweaking, usually applying "smooth" does the trick.

Spalted maple, right off the table.

Should looks great once complete, I'll post back when able.
Am going to make a walnut frame for it, or maybe countersink it into a walnut block cut out in the shape of a shield.
Then I am going to coat with tung oil instead of the usual spray can clear coat.

Pretty interesting spalt on the face Doug:)
Luck, or what you were trying for WITH Luck?
Tung thinned 50/50 for first coats will penetrate and beef up any punky areas a bit if using pure Tung....
Going to be a NICE one I think:)

Yeah, right between the eyes !
Any spalt is pure luck of the draw, no way that I know of to predict where the graining will land doing 3D.

This block was a lot more spalty at the surface but a lot of it milled away as I got deeper ,,, Which is fine, too much would be a distraction I think.

I have a love/hate relationship with this wood, love the look but too often blocks crack along the spalt lines, guess its just the nature of the game.
Made these grips from the same chunk of wood, turned out pretty nice.
