3D Horned Skull

Post by mfirlott »

First try at modelling a 3D object using new 2-sided features in Aspire.

As this was a "test", was done in MDF and simply slapped some paint over it to see what it could look like.

Worked out real well. Used a model I got from Thingverse, then using Windows 10 3D Builder I split the model into 8 horizontal slices of 3/4" each. After that, took each slice into Aspire and ran a 2-sided machine job then glued the 8 parts together.

Am very, very happy at the outcome and plan to do more 3D models.

Looks like it came out very well, curious though why you used 3D builder to slice it rather than just using the tools in Aspire, one of the things I haven't really tried yet so don't know how well it works with Aspire, seems to be OK from the tutorial though

Used 3D Builder as it repairs broken or open areas as it slices.

I can also view the model in multiple views as I rotate it around.

I also find that when I import object into Aspire to slice, the undercut areas show up as flat surfaces that go to the material surface so I do not what to slice it in Aspire...is not a true view of the model (if it has undercuts).
