Monograms
Re: Monograms
I want to do a monogram for my granddaughter 3rd birthday. This is my first attempt at trying to monogram. I downloaded the vine monogram letters from Font Bros.
Could someone tell me if I did this correctly, the letters look skinny to me.
Thanks,
Sam

Re: Monograms
Did you use the BOLD fonts? I have found that when doing these there is a lot of node editing just to get out the un-even lines and curves.

Re: Monograms
Instead of one toolpath ON the line,
Perhaps run 2 toolpaths?
One inside the line, one outside the line?

Re: Monograms
Or just use one toolpath (in your case "1A PROFILE OUTSIDE LINES .125EM") but select all the vectors and let the software figure out the inside and outside cuts.

Thanks to ALL.....that really helps!
Just one other question. Do you put tabs on all the parts or just cut out without tabs?
Thanks again to all,

ALL THE PARTS. Those inside pieces can become quite the projectiles.SB61 wrote:Thanks to ALL.....that really helps!

Re: Monograms
As an option, one can pocket the smaller holes rather than profiling with tabs. Your choice.

Even pocketing sometimes presents projectiles. I agree pocketing makes a differance but still debri is an issue.FixitMike wrote:As an option, one can pocket the smaller holes rather than profiling with tabs. Your choice.

Re: Monograms
What is the best plywood to use for letters.
I tried some Appleply from HD and it cut to fuzzy on the ends.
Thanks,
Sam

Re: Monograms
Hey Randall,
The link you provided was quite amusing.
1. plies are birch. OK, fine I wouldn't expect poplar or pine ply to be made of birch. But how is birch better?
2. cross-banded. What, no other plywood is cross-banded?
3. exterior grade adhesive. Again why is this important? My bookshelf in my living room is unlikely to be rained upon. I have no data to confirm or deny if other plywood manufacturers use a similar adhesive.
4. it's void free until you find one. Granted the voids tend to be twig sized.
What he doesn't mention is that BB ply is prone to splintering (think porcupine) and fuzzing via tablesaw or upcut router bits.

Unlike traditional plywood?Baltic birch’s core is unlike traditional plywood you may be used to seeing: the layers of inner plies are 1.5 mm-thick solid birch veneer, cross-banded, and laminated with exterior grade adhesive. It’s a recipe that results in a void-free core with a number of advantages, which is why in the U.S. we’ve discovered that the material is fantastic for thousands of projects in woodworking.

Re: Monograms
I am trying to do this shape for my wife. Does anyone know how I could get the outline. I know how to put the letter in the center.
Thanks
