Lamp Table

Post by Jerry In Maine »

This little table was inspired by an antique table I got at auction 20+ years ago. Made of pine, top and sides are 3/4" thick while center brace is 1/2".

Sides and top are machined on both sides....the top has pockets underneath for the side to slip into and the sides are pocketed to accept the center brace. Wooden buttons on the sides hide the screws holding it together

Its low profile...meaning it doesn't call much attention to itself and doesn't stick out far from the wall so its good for spots too tight for larger tables.

This was my first piece of "furniture" done with Aspire and I'd be happy to post the files if there's any interest. It makes for quick project and you've likely got enough scrap laying about to make at least one.

size is 24" high x 24" wide by 12" wide

Here's the files:

(228 KiB) Downloaded 356 times
table sides.crv3d
(657.5 KiB) Downloaded 345 times
table brace.crv3d
(271 KiB) Downloaded 333 times

The top uses a 1/2" ball nose to enhance the edges. 1/2" wood dowels are on the top and sides to line the stock up when flipping to machine the back side. The 1/2" wood "buttons" on the sides that cover screws are available at lumber stores.

I typo-ed the dimensions...actually they're size is 24" tall x 24" wide by 12" wide.

I used white pine and applied the finish before assembly. The top and side pockets are .02" oversize to ease assembly, but one thing I found is that white pine swells a bit when a finish is applied. This made the top and side pockets a very tight fit.

If you plan to finish before assembly you might want to make the pockets a bit larger...maybe .04", just in case the wood swells.

Just the way I like things, simple and non-intrusive.
What's that long white thing on the wall?
If it is a heater won't it interfere with timber movement?
BTW. Thanks for the files
Cheers

That's the baseboard heat. Common in cold weather climates like New England. Theyre installed throughout the house. Hot water circulates in them and when the slot at the top is open warm air comes out.

Fuel oil is expensive these days so we don't use them much. We now heat mostly with wood pellets in a centrally located pellet stove. Its much like a common wood burning stove.
