Just a little box

Post by zeeway »

Made this little "seagull box" for a charity auction. It is maple on the bottom and cherry on the top. It opens by pivoting on a 1/4 inch dowel.

Very nice Angie! I especially like the pivoting lid. I get so caught up in designing lids with lips (losing carving depth in the process) and thinking up clever ways to flip the piece to get it properly aligned front to back that I miss out on easy-to-do solutions like that! It would also help with the movement aspect of wood. I broke the edge of a very nice lobster box last week trying to open it as the wood had warped a bit and it got really tight... Gonna have to rethink that whole strategy! Thanks!

Mike

Nicely done. Interesting idea on the inside corners.
