I tend to look at the project and decide when to sculpt and when to carve.
Because this is a 'one off' I felt that instead of spending time trying to find
and/or create a 3D model of the tractor from scratch, I could hand sculpt it much more quickly.
I was right. I only spent about 30 minutes sculpting the tractor (a lot of that was
mixing the epoxy). It also gives it a nice "hand made" look. I could certainly have built
the model in Aspire, too. I did use Aspire to cut out varying levels of pvc for things like
the tires and the weights on front...just to build the shape up before sculpting.
The font used for "McCauley" is from "Letterhead fonts" at: http://www.letterheadfonts.com/
Check out Signmaker, Boston Truckstyle...and generally anything by Dave Correll. They
have some great fonts for sign making (and you see them in movies often, too!)
My finishing style uses a primer, base coat and then several glazes to build up the colors.
I think painting them is one of my favorite parts of the process!

Re: Farm Sign Fun
Thank you, Doug, I appreciate the explanation as I am someday going to move up to Aspire.
No doubt my "artistic" talent wouldn't even come close to your skill, so I'm sure I would have ended up making (or buying) a model, lol!
Thanks,
Dave

Fantastic bit of work, really wish I got asked for more stuff along those lines.
The font for "McCauley" looks very much like one of the gerber edge fonts but can't remember the name of it.

And thanks for the adjustable "easel" idea.

Oh heck, that adjustable easel seems to go waaay back on the sign and cabinet maker's side...it was an early tip
from a sign painter and was being used by the cabinet shop owner who I purchased my shop from for painting and drying
trim for cabinets.
