podium for trade show booth

Post by rej »

here is the tree for my podium.
scratch coat on today, finish coat on tueday or so.

the top branch will have a sign on it with our sister company name - 3d magical signs.

it will be attached like my sign shop sign i just finished.

the lower branch will have a steel plate welded on it to hold a shelf made of hdu that will have our laptop on it.
the wood planks will be cut as shown in the picture, 4 sided with a plywood bottom. someting like the size of a letter tray, big enough for a laptop to design custom orders at the shows for customers.

tree knots will be prominent as well, and a bird added later.
the tree will be mounted to a platform that will have some greenery, with casters underneath. then i can just roll it in and out of our trailer.

jamie oxenham is sketching the sign, using his imagination to come up with something eye catching. i will post it when i see it.

Excellent work as always...
Might have a problem keeping the squirrels away, though

I was just thinking some poor woodpecker is going to get a nasty surprise.

looks like this will be the sign on the podium.
the text and border will be suspended off the book about an inch.
the open pages will have sketches for a sign job on them in jules verne style.
the book corners will be gold leafed. the book is pretty big, about 32x16

this design is from jamie oxenham. he is doing the vector model for the book, i have done the arched text.

should be cut in two weeks when my hdu gets here.

I LIKE THIS BETTER.
IT WILL BE TAKEN TO THE BANDSAW AND THE ARCH WILL BE CUT ON THE BACK.

the book is modeled and will be cut in slices next week.
it is huge - 32.5 wide, 21 tall and almost 4 inches thick. and that's without the text, which will add another 1.5 spaced an inch above the book.

it will hopefully stop people walking by the booth and have them ask about having us design something for their business.

more in a week or so when the sign is cut.

Looking good, rej but the tree trunk looks too real, ....you should consider an ounce and a half of prevention...1-1/2 ounces

i looked it up.
thats pretty funny.

here's one of the prints that will be painted on a page.

if anyone wants to sketch a design that would look cool on the book, i'm open to using it.
if you want to submit one to this project, please post one on this page. the more to pick from, the better.

people might see your talents and pm you to hire you.

Here's one.
We start this project next week.
If you make the building a bit 3-D it would be even better.
Nice work.

Out of respect for the great Dan Sawatzky, you should probably mention where your inspiration for this project came from.

He's a good man, and I'm sure he wouldn't mind you duplicating the stand he uses at his sign making workshops. But you should each reference your source in this post.

i've referenced dan many times on numerous forums, including this one and given links to his blogs and website.

but i guess you didn't know this since you just joined this forum, and decided to tell me what i should do.

Sorry if that came off bad. You are right, I hadn't seen any previous posts. A few weeks ago I had someone duplicate my work identically, with no recognition. It bothered me. I may have read your post incorrectly, and reacted improperly. I apologize.

accepted.
i've actually met dan and told him i emulate his work.
anyone who produces world class work, in any field, will be studied and duplicated to some extent.
i have had several email conversations with dan about his methods. he sees it as inspiring people to rise above the norm.
i wish he was an aspire user instead of an enroute person. but he isn't. i was very lucky to find jamie oxenham who produces world class work, and is an aspire user. so my designs are done by jamie who copies no one. he dosen't need to. i don't believe there is anything that jamie can't model.

thanks
