Large USCG Walnut Designs

Post by NSchlee »

Here's a 1.5" x 16" x 40" walnut USCG design being carved. And another 1.5" x 15" x 20" USCG Diver Helmut carving sanded and lacquered. I used a .5" bit for the roughing and a .125" ball nose for the finish pass.

Nice work! I love carving walnut. That helmet is excellent!

I'm wondering if you've that logo piece vacced down, or simply held from sliding around by the block? If it wasn't for that block I'd think the walnut was glued to the backer board, and the backer board was held by vacuum.

That looks like a Multicam, with the phenolic square grid table, and the primer colored gray paint, with which I'm well familiar. I'm guessing M-series based on the red logo? Mine is an MG and has a blue logo. If it's got an H-board controller we should swap tips and tricks.
