and wrap it to one of the circles

AS for my self the writing would be in french:''TU AS CAPTURE MON COEUR''
it could also be written in spanish : TU HAS ATRAPADO ME CORAZON
in Italian: HAI RAPITO IL MIO CUORE
With these 4 version of the phrase that will cover most of the Vector community.
and we could do it ourself for the carving.
Can you supply me with the information.Thank you again.Gerry
Hi Gerry,

If you have Aspire it is easy to create any text you like, just use the 'Text On A Curve' tool to wrap your text around a circle.

EDIT - I see sawmiller has beaten me to it with a better explanation!

HI
I understand the way of putting words around, what i don't know is how do you split each circle to be able to do a profile on each of them.
When i program the finishing the hole board become blue and there is no way to install the profile.
if i was able to split the component( there is only one and no tree) that might fix the problem.Gerry

I've been busy cutting one of these myself today - hoping for brownie points on Monday :-).

I had to rearrange it for our metric world over here and then picked the wrong board to cut it from  . Spotted the problem in time to re do the layout and managed to cut it, with only a slight nick taken out of one of the screws I was holding my wrongly sized board down with   .

It isn't up to the standard that many of you guys on here regularly post but I'm delighted with it. I'll probably ruin it tommorow applying the finish but that is all part of the learning curve as well eh?

Here are a couple of photos taken with my phone of work in progress, I'm letting the glue for the various pieces dry over night.

I've added a little to the design by incorporating a personal message under the 'top slice' which I'm planing to hold on with a rare earth magnet I happen to have (and a drawing pin ...). I stole the idea from Grease's recent box he posted.

I'll post further pictures tommorow whichever way it turns out.

Thanks again Michael for a great project - I've had a great deal of fun today - by the way, the tip of using a sander clamped down has saved a huge amount of time!

gerry, there should be circles around each part. if not, click on the 3d componet ( i only made one, to simplfy transfer ) and use the trace bmp icon pull the slider all the way over so the componet looks solid, and trace. it will put a circle around each part..
thats the nice thing about the trace bmp, it does componets also.

Thats only because Barbara took all the rubbish from Christmas down the tip last week, I could hardly see the ShopBot until then!

I stained the dowels while the other parts were cutting. I like the contrast, and thought about staining the rest a lighter colour to keep it. However, my wife likes Michael's original so it will probably be all stained the same colour (and to be honest the wood I've used could probably do with as much camouflage as possible ...).

I've got to go shopping for the gold chain and some stain for the heart tomorow as well.

Hi all, I am running a Legacy Artisan and the attached pictures are of the project as it came off the machine and a screen shot of the finish toolpath settings. The project has cut very rough and was hoping for some advice because I am faily new to CNC.

Thank You

for the finish path, i used a 1/8" ( .125) ballnose at 10%
you used a .25 ball @ 11% stepover if i read that right.
so it will be rougher. about twice as rough.
also i used raster aligned to be with the grain, easier to hide/sand

Could some of it be that you swap a 1/4 inch bit for the 1/8 inch that was in the file, along with your step over?

There you go.

The clock is ticking, but the staining hasn't been a disaster, on balance I think it looks better than the plain wood so I'll settle for that. If my wife can recognise what I've made she will be impressed :-).

The personal message will be hidden under the 'cap' , but the cap is held on by a magnet.

The parts are also missing the 'vertical' sections from Michaels design as I didn't have a piece of wood 0.75" thick!

Off out now to get the bits for finishing the heart.

Having fun.

Brian,

That is coming out great and the finish looks good. I like the idea of the personal message and magnet. I'm thinking this will keep you out of trouble.

And to think for all these years the only use I knew of for a drawer bottom was to keep the stuff from falling out :P

And it's finished with a whole 2 and 1/4 hours to Valentines day left :-).

The only red stain I could find wasn't all that red so I will redo the heart again when I get a better red.

There is definately plenty of room for improvement, but as a first attempt at this sort of wood working since I was in school I'm chuffed!

Thanks again Michael.

Chuffed?

I'm sure it's a compliment but please translate "chuffed" for us Yanks :D

Cheers,

Phil

PS Obviously I am not using the quotes option correctly. How should I be using "Quotes"?
