Constellations

Post by rneathawk »

Hey All,

It's been a super long time since I've been on here, but after this past weekend at the Chicago usergroup meeting, I was excited to get back on and see what people are making. I thought it would be cool to show people what I'm currently working on. It's not done yet... but here are some progress shots.

What I'm making is a landscape shot of my local 'Mountain' range here in Western Massachusetts, and above that range are all of the constellations that were visible on July 25th of 2017. The constellations are all made of steel and are lit with various size LED's. The power is going to be solar. The entire scene is 16' wide x 8'tall.

It's a little different because it's all metal - but I still use Vectric software. I imported sketches / drawings into Aspire. From there I was able to draw out the constellations as well as the mountain range. If it were not for Aspire, I probably couldn't have done this project because I don't know how to use any other software. After creating the vectors in Aspire, I exported the files to my Plasma software. I will post more as I make progress.

Despite working around the clock on this - there isn't a lot to report. A lot of grinding and welding. I did finally get to cleaning up and priming today. Normally I powder coat our steel projects but this one will not fit in our oven. Not much more CNC work either - just assembling.

Ha! It's not quite a boxer - It's an 800. I had to take it to the shop today because my front tire blew out in my truck.

You were "Hiding" it behind your "Constellation" :D
(JUST gave my old R75/6 Ltd away to a friend to restore as it was taking up space in the shop..and hadn't ridden since"89 and never did make it into a sidecar for the wheelchair:)
Anxious to see finished pics of your project!
Hope you have Alnitak, Alnilam and Mintaka in there somewhere:)
