Seat blanks
Seat blanks
I am trying for the first time to cut an indent into some seat blanks (solid cherry) and am looking for info on the best way to lay this out in Aspire. FYI, the indent is not symmetrical and I am trying to get the two rail sweep to work.. although unsuccessful. (I am a rookie at this obviously) Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Seat blanks
Did it make sense to run the sweep in the four quadrants?

Re: Seat blanks
Hello,
I did a seat carving toolpath a while back, but it's been a while and I don't remember exactly how I created the toolpaths. Here is a preview of it, and I have the .crv file if anyone is interested (I can send it in email). I think it is too large to post even when I delete the toolpaths.

Re: Seat blanks
OK, so I am trying to get the two rail sweep to work using the 4 quadrants.. but I cannot figure out how to make the area where the top and bottom half come together have a nice smooth transition. I have attached both views of what is happening here... Any suggestions on what else do I need to do?

Re: Seat blanks
Hi Eric,
What part of the sweep is controlling the transition? I would think if the rail is the shape of the transition you would need to modify the rails to get the required transition?

Re: Seat blanks
Thanks Wes, I built this in 4 seperate sections. basically 4 quadrants (top right, bottom right, bottom left and top left. Actually, I did the right section and then mirrored it to the left after the sweep.
Unfortunately I gotta run now before my wife kills me for working all day on a Saturday. Thanks for everybodys help with this. I will check back later...

Hi Eric,
I don't know if this is what you are looking for and I didn't have exact proportions, but I did this using "create shape" then faded the bottom edge up to the surface a little. Just a quick attempt.

Thanks Joe, I think that this is what I am going to need to do. I appreciate the help!
Re: Seat blanks
Here is what I have ended up with. I did the profile with a little tilt, as well as machined the 2 rail sweep version using a 7/8" round over bit. Now, I guess a sit test is in order to see what feels best. BTW, I sent the Kilt Seat to my client to see how he would like that style... he thought it looked a little small for him. Ha!

Are you sure you don't need this?
